Edutainment Complete Seipone Exhibits Demand Attention in the Middle East
“Science centers have an excellent opportunity to facilitate change because they interact with learners, promote creative thinking and explore the curriculum”, “Our belief is that by seeking intimate knowledge of township, rural and urban South Africa , educational facilities will be empowered to structure their services and messages to appeal to all South Africans.” Dirk Durnez revealed effective methods to prepare learners for an ever-changing world , emphasizing the importance of self esteem. He clarified that, “Exhibits that include indigenous knowledge and cultural games show learners from previously disadvantaged sectors that their world matters too - thereby giving them the confidence to explore.” Promoting the use of characteristically South African elements in exhibit design, Seipone unveiled its “Spaza Newspaper” exhibit. The exhibit encourages one to visit the Seipone spaza shop (kiosk or tuck-shop typically found in the township) where instead of buying one; a newspaper is designed from scratch. The resulting newspaper, which includes a front page picture of the exhibit user is personalized and printed out to take home. The exhibit remained a part of the conference, which ran between the 16th and 18th of November, and attracted the attention of delegates ranging from decision makers and foreign delegates to school teachers.
